I was in a meeting with a group of like-minded contractors I get together with the first and third week of every month when someone in the group pointed out that "outreach" is not the same thing as "reaching out." What he meant by this is that, as christians, we sometimes can focus so much on outreach, and serving others, that when we are personally going through a rough spot in life, we tend to pacify our need to "reach out" for help from our brothers and sisters in Christ. I think this is a great point to be made. The more life experience I get, the more I realize that we all need help, and that we all fall short of our life's expectations in so many different ways. Often times, as we try to be leaders in our communities, we fail to speak out when we are lonely, struggling to pay our bills in this economy, etc...One of the biggest things Christ calls us to do in life is, yes, outreach to others and the poor, but also to reach out to the body of Christ when we are in need. We don't always need to act like we have it all together. There are times when opening up to someone who can encourage us is a very healthy thing to do. I know there are so many geneous people out there "keep it all together" for everyone else around them while they could use some encouragement too. When two people lean on each other from opposite directions, neither of them fall to the ground.
For me, I would ask that you pray for the future of this ministry as we strive to grow it, and my grandmother, who is suffering as she watches my grandfather go through some of the saddest stages of ahlzheimer's disease. What can we, as a ministry add to our prayer list for you? We all need help. We all need each other. But, most of all, we all need Jesus.
Have a great week.
