Be Still

One of the most exciting things in sports to me is a shoot-out in the World Cup. Everything over the course of four years coming down to 5 athletes selected to take a penalty kick vs. the opponents goalie. A majority of the time, the player is able to score because the penalty kicks are taken so close to the goal, the goalie has no time to react to the shot being taken. Rather than reacting to the shot once it is seen, the goalie will typically choose a pre-determined side to guess where the opponent is going to shoot the ball, and hope he/she accurately guesses or judges the eyes and body language of the one taking the shot. That being said, a goalie only chooses the correct side and makes the save on 6% of the shots taken. Some shots miss off the mark, but only 6% of the time the goalie's guesswork results in a save. However, if the goalie were to stay put and not move when the shot is taken, they would end up saving 30% of the shots taken. That's 1 extra save per shoot-out. So often, the goalie dives to one side, only to have the ball fly right past where he was standing.

Sometimes, in life, we try to do too much. There are times where we need to be reliant upon God and let Him do the rest, and fully believe that He will. This is not to say that we aren't the active hands and feet of Christ here on this Earth, but it simply points out that there are times in life where we need to let God take control. All we can do is sit tight and pray. We can pray for healing, that our kids will make good choices in life after we have done all we can to teach them, etc...This week, let God hold you and your family in His arms. Let's be still and know that He is God (Psalm 46:10).
