Weeds

Another weekend and another day of pulling more weeds and managing the yard. For the life of me, I can't seem to find a way to keep everything but the proper kind of grass out of my lawn. I've battled crab grass, mushrooms, dandelions, bermuda grass, etc...and I'm sure there is more to come. It's gotten better over time, but I have learned that I can't let a weekend go by without tending to my yard or I'm in for a long work day that following week.

As I was mowing my lawn this past weekend, checking for anything that didn't belong, I thought of how these weeds remind me of the ugly habits in our lives. Sometimes, no matter what we do, we can't seem to get it right. There are many things in life that can be removed for a while, but if they are not kept in check, they will surface again and again. I want to remind all of us that we are never going to get to a point in our lives when we have everything figured out. But, we can help ourselves out and make things easier on ourselves if we regularly keep ourselves in check. What does this look like in life? A regular check-up might be time reading the Bible, dedication to a prayer life, or open communication with your spouse or a mentor.

This week, let's take a look at our lives, get rid of the weeds, and maintain it.
