Yard Work

Over the previous few weeks, my wife and I have been very busy getting ready for the birth of our son who should be born any day now. Whether we have been painting the room, putting the crib together, building a closet, or doing any of the other things we need to do to get ready for him, there are still those day to day items that need to be taken care of as well. Last friday night, I found myself finishing up my yard work and hosing off the excess grass from our driveway at 9:00 at night. There just wasn't any other time during the upcoming weekend to get it done, so I did what was necessary. I have learned my lesson about letting my yard for go for a week or two unattended. The result of this is an overgrowth of weeds and a long hot day of yard work in the middle of summer. That just doesn't appeal to me, especially with the hot and humid weather we have been having. However, as much as I try to stay on top of my yard responsibilities, there are those weeks where I let it go and I pay the price.

I was thinking about this recently and how it relates to our faith. Regardless of how much I know that I need God in my life for true joy, there are times when I become laxidasical and let it go for the time being. Not that my faith stops, but my faith in action stops. Whether it's a lack of spending time in prayer, doing devotions, or whatever it is, I know that if I begin to separate from God, it will hurt my family and me in the end. And the road to recovery after this can be difficult. As C.S. Lewis once said, "human history is the long terrible story of man trying to find something other than God which will make him happy." Sad, but true. This is why it is so important to belong to a community (or to be blunt, have good friends) that allow us to pick each other up when another is struggling in their actions or faith.

We all need a community to belong to, a God-fearing group of people.

I want to end this week's newsletter by letting everyone know that we are currently looking at a few steps that will allow us to put our faith into action. Suggestions are always welcome via e-mail or on twitter (as a side note, I highly recommend joining twitter and following encouraging people). We are a non-profit foundation that is simply here to help us all our in how we act. Together, we can raise money to save lives both domestically and internationally, fight disease, and stay connected with God.

Have a good week.
