Motivation

I was reading a short list online of life lessons that a person should have learned by the time they are in their mid twenties. I'd say as a whole, I would agree with most of the one's I read, with a few exceptions. One that really stuck out to me for one reason or another was one that read "motivation comes in short bursts--act while it's hot." I have found this to be more and more true as I find myself with more and more responsibility as time passes. As a kid, I always saw my parents as people who could really handle anything. I guess that is a compliment to them. They never showed me a side of them that indicated that life was getting the best of them. They had a ton of energy for both my brother and me. As I grow into the parent I would like to be someday, I often find myself driving in my car on a work day with a stack of paperwork on the passenger seat to get through. Whether it's a customer file that I need to review and follow up with, a bill I need to pay, or a reminder for anything and everything, there always seem to be something to do. There are many days when I have a few spare minutes to work on it a bit, but I really don't feel like digging into it all at that point in time. So, I have noticed that when I can bring myself to get enough motivation to tighten up some loose ends, I need to do everything I can to take advantage of that moment.

It's similar with our faith. I know we all need to be in the word of God on a daily basis, but there are those times where we really feel the presence of God in our heart and mind. We need to capitalize on it. In those moments, we can really do some soul searching and have some valuable time with God. I don't want to sit here and promote an emotional relationship with God, but I do think there are times where God moves in ways that are felt differently than others. Maybe it's the motivation that we need to sign up for the small group we have been meaning to do for quite some time. Maybe it's just pulling out our Bible that's been sitting on the shelf for a few months and read it. Maybe it's going over to a family members house who's lonely and spending time with them. Whatever it is, let's try not to limit the Holy Spirit in these times. Let's take advantage of them.

Have a great week.
