Dependency

It's been quite a week for celebration with the birth of the newest member of the family, Preston Lucas. My nephew (from my wife's side of the family) was born shortly after Mother's day came to a close. I had the opportunity to go to the hospital that day and hold the little guy for a few minutes between visits from other family and friends. While holding this tiny infant, with nothing but a future, I thought to myself how dependent he is on his parents and family to give him food, shelter, and love. My daughter even commented after holding him that he is so reliant on whoever is holding him to protect him. When you really think about it, we aren't too much different than that. We are desperately dependent on God for life and love that will last forever. Sometimes I forget that when I am able to work, earn money, and walk on my own two feet. I somehow forget this dependency when I am able to provide for myself to a certain extent and everything else in life is in order, for the time being. Holding Preston this week was a great reminder of how much we need Jesus, for everything. He is our provider, our shelter, and our strength. With Him, we have nothing to fear. Without Him, we are orphans.
