When a Louisville men's basketball player dunked the ball in the final seconds of overtime to give the Cardinals a five-point lead over number 6 ranked Pittsburgh, the game should have been completely over. However, convinced that that clock was at 0.00, a men's cheerleader walked onto the court and hurled the ball high in the air in celebration. The only problem was .05 seconds remained in the game, causing the referee's to assess a technical foul for delay of game on the unsuspecting cheerleader.
As a result, a Pitt player made two technical foul free throws, and was able to attempt a half-court heave that would have tied the game again. Luckily, the shot misfired, and Louisville prevailed.
This makes me think of how often we make assumptions that are detrimental to either ourselves or those around us. How often do we pre-judge someone? This has happened all of our lives. Whether it's a kid judging a new classmate, or an adult developing pre-conceived notions about a co-worker, we all do it on some level. So, this week, let's not run onto the court and throw the ball into the air, if you know what I mean. Let's take our time in determining the outcome in the people and things around us.
