My wife and I spent the majority of our date night this past Saturday discussing the 9.0 (upgraded from 8.9) earthquake in Japan, and the devastation it has caused for families in that country. We happened to be out to eat at a local family owned Japanese restaurant where both of the T.V.'s in the place were covering the disaster. We kept getting back to the point of how scary it is for the children in Japan who are alone, without family, not knowing where to go or what to do for survival. I know it's terrible for anyone in that situation, but I just can't imagine what those kids are going through right now.
When I first think about the trauma over there, it seems unreal, really. Here in peaceful California, it's hard to put myself in their situation. I've been thinking about what I can do or what we can do as Christians to do to help. This very situation is where we need to step up and do something. How can we help? One of the ways we can help here and now is through prayer. This is such a powerful thing we can do, from way over here in the U.S. I would like each and every one of us this week to pray for those in pain, for those who are anxious while in search of family, for those in need of food, etc...We can all do this and make a difference.
For those of you who are more "hands on" you can go to www.samaritan.org and find many other ways to help with the aftermath of the Japanese earthquake.
Have a great week.
