The 3 Aspects of Life

The older I get, the less time there seems to be in each day. Over the past few months, I've come to a point in my life where I have accepted the fact that the majority of my day will be some fashion of work. Whether it's working at my job, or at the house, responsibilities call. Because of this, I have come to realize that with a busier schedule by the day, I could very easily lose touch with friends and family that I care about very much. I have learned the benefits of prioritizing more over the past year than any other year in my life. Now, I consider all of this a blessing. Being busy is good. I want to be busy at my job because that means work in coming in. I want to be busy with my family because that means God has blessed me with a wife and kid(s). I want to be busy with the house because that means my wife and I have been blessed to be able to pay our bills. Busy, to a point, is a wonderful blessing.

But, I will say that much of life's happiness rests on how we are able to delicately balance being busy, and too busy. So, I have tried to prioritize things into categories with an order, so that later in the evening, I have a few hours and moments with my family that are truly the best part of life.

The spiritual category:

I truly believe that the key to not only our happiness in life, but also to those who rely on you, is directly related to the ability to dedicate time to spend with God. The spiritual aspect of life is paramount to one's inner peace, and ultimately, your spouse and kid's as well. Whether it's spending a bit of time in the Bible each morning, or spending time in prayer at the start of each day, a spiritual discipline is the foundation of what I define as success in life.

The physical category:

Another absolutely critical aspect to a balanced and content life is staying active and in shape. Whether it's starting or ending our day with a run/walk, swim, bike, and/or other workout programs, we need this in life. I know that our happiness and success don't depend on what we look like, but I would argue that some sort of regular physical activity stimulates our soul like nothing else can.

The financial category:

Then there is the financial side of life. The truth is that in order to live in almost every society, you need to make money. Everything costs money, and biblically, working hard is what God wants us to do. I think we can all agree on this.

I would challenge each of us in the new year to not just blindly work to pay the bills, but to invest in all of these areas of life. It will make the the social aspect of our lives a whole lot more enjoyable.
