"It's what you learn that after you know it all that counts." -John Wooden
I'm 28 years old, and the older I get, the more I find out that I have a lot more to learn about life, parenting, friendships, and so much more. It's a very immature belief that at some point, we will one day reach the pinnacle of knowledge and then continue to live in this perennial state of wisdom until our days run out. It's interesting to think that if we are blessed to live to our 80's or even our 90's, we will still be discovering new things and gaining more knowledge through life's experiences.
Now that I am a parent, it makes me realize that when I was a child, my parents were still learning about life, too. My dad was in the middle of progressing a career, and my mom was learning more and more each day about how to parent two young boys. When I first started to think about this, it kind of scared me to think that my parents really didn't have all of life figured out. But, the more I thought about it, it scared me to think of what my life would have been like if my parents thought they DID have everything figured out.
You see, if we ever reach a point where we think we "know it all," then that puts both us and those around us in a position of entrapment. It restricts us from being open to ministries that we may never have thought we would embrace. It also hardens our hearts when things don't quite go our way in life, or how we had pre-planned them in our mind. This week, let's be open to what God calls us to do. Let's also focus on being open to God's ability to take the hurtful things in life and turn them into blessings. God promises to use all things for the good OF THOSE WHO LOVE HIM. God loves an open heart, and can do amazing things in the lives of those you aren't "know it alls." Let him expand your heart and mind this week.
