December 14, 2009

This past weekend, my wife and I went up to the Los Angeles area to visit some family, and on the way back down south to San Diego, we picked up an early surprise Christmas present for our 7 year-old daughter...an 8 week old Maltese puppy. Our 7 year-old, Brianna, has been asking for a dog for years now, but you know, the timing just wasn’t right until now. I’ll never forget looking back at her in the car, only to see her staring at the puppy with the biggest smile on her face. She looked at her mom and me and said, “I don’t know why but my eyes are getting watery.” She was thrilled to tears, literally.

How great it is to bring such joy to someone who relies on you. I can only imagine the joy God has when we pour out our hearts to Him, and are truly joyful for the love that He gives us. I can only imagine the joy our Savior must have when His children are deeply grateful. And I can only imagine the hurt that He feels when He is rejected by those He has given His own so to. This Christmas, I hope we can all express the joy that Christ gives us, genuinely experiencing the love God has for us, proven by the gift of His Son.
