Over the past few years, I've desperately wanted to find a calling in my life, something that would get me up and out of my chair and doing the work of the Lord...something big. Over those years, it's been interesting to me to see so many people find their vocation. I've seen people move to other countries, change their field of employment, etc...But I've also recently noticed that it seems to be a trend in our society today to always find a minstry that's helping the poor in a third world country, or something else along the lines of a drastic cultural change and and uprooting of our current lifestyle.
I think this type of ministry is absolutely needed, and I admire those who are courageous and willing enough to do such a thing for the work of the Lord. But, I want to bring this up to make us aware that not all of us will be called to do missions work overseas, or to save the orphans in a different corner of the world. There is plenty of work to be done for Christ all around us, even in the comforts of my surroundings...southern California.
When we are trying to find a vocation or a ministry to become a part of, it's important to be in consistent prayer about it. It's critical to pray for the Lord to give us a calling in a specific ministry, and not just move to another part of the world, "just because."
God has desinged us all with unique talents and spiritual gifts. It's important to stay in tune with the Lord through prayer and patience in determining what He might want us to do with our lives.
