The world in which we live is so relentlessly successful at pulling us away from who God intended and created us to be. We are constantly pulled away from our core, feeling like we have to be so many different things to so many people. As I’ve settled further and further into my career, faith, and friendships, I’ve come to realize there is just not enough hours in a day to be all things to all people. In a fast-paced society, I’ve seen so many of us sacrifice our own well-being, our time with our closest of friends and family, and our relationship with the Lord. I’ve come to believe, over time, that this can be a dangerous way to live, and an easy trap to fall into. We know we need to be as selfless as possible, and sometimes we don’t know where to draw the line when it comes to spreading ourselves too thin, in turn, sacrificing the things that really “make us tick”, if you will.
I believe it breaks God’s heart when He sees us sacrifice our core being and the talents that He’s given us because we don’t ever want to let anyone else down. It’s critical that we are able to put our time and efforts into what we feel the Holy Spirit has called us to do in life, and not always feel like we have to appease everyone else around you.
In short, let’s try our best to be the people God has created us to be—someone that He would recognize at heaven’s gates.
