You Need More Than, You

As of February, 2009, the world's population is estimated to be about 6.75 billion. So, with 6.75 billion people on this earth, and growing, how then, do we so often feel alone? How is it, in a facebook and myspace-dominated world, do we feel like there is nobody to talk to--nobody that truly understands us?

Well, it's my personal opinion that with so many people around us on a daily basis, we rarely stop to appreciate those who are close to us.

Work. Exercise. Food. T.V. Bed.

A day without genuine personal interaction is as easy as that. We rarely take the time to dig into the hearts of those we care about the most. With such easy access to so many people, we rarely sit back and soak in the great blessings of the community around us. And that's such a shame, because life was meant to be lived in community with one another.

I believe this idea of being alone goes much deeper than just being physically surrounded by other people and other things outside ourselves. God understood the importance of being able to dig into the hearts of those around us, and to grow with each other spiritually on a consistent basis. Even Jesus Christ, the greatest man to ever walk the face of the earth, chose to surround himself with 12 close friends for his journey.

All this being said, I want to challenge everyone this week to find people in our lives that we are able to grow with, spiritually, and nourish those relationships. If you are able to get in a small group and study God's word, do it. This doesn't mean we need to pour out our hearts to those around us on a daily basis, because solitude is needed at times too. Rather, we need those people in our lives that we can turn to when life gets rough. We also need these people to share life's truimphs with--to celebrate our successes.

So, don't be just one of the 6.75 billion that's running through life without slowing down enough to foster relationships with those you love the most. We need each other. We were created in the image of the Triune God . We are in desperate need of each other at our core.
