Other than putting my thoughts down on paper each week and sending them out to you in the form of these newsletters, my day job (you know, what I do to actually pay the bills) is marketing and sales for Baker Electric Solar. Working in the solar industry, I find myself in 2-3 clients homes a day, consulting them on how they can most cost effectively eliminate their electric bill by “going solar.” The best part about my job is that I have the opportunity to sit down and talk with such a variety of people on a consistent basis. I learn something new from a perfect stranger every single day.
It’s so interesting to me to meet new people with entirely different life experiences, perspectives, ethnic and religious backgrounds, etc…the list of differences goes on and on. The more people I meet, the more I realize how our faith completely shapes how we view the world, especially the people around us.
C.S. Lewis once said, “I believe in Christianity as I believe the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” So true! It’s so important to allow the Holy Spirit to shape how we view EVERYTHING in our lives. Sometimes we can fall victim to compartmentalizing Jesus, letting him leak through the cracks in our lives that we open for Him—only letting Him into the broken parts of our lives and not the parts we think we have already figured out. But Jesus doesn’t offer us a “pick and choose” faith. It’s not a 911 type of relationship. The Holy Spirit is water to be absorbed as with a sponge, all the time. There should be no area of our lives that the Holy Spirit doesn’t touch, restore, and embrace. Not that we don’t always have room to grow, but that God is forever maturing, developing, and growing us in our faith until the day we meet Him in heaven.
So, the challenge is this: As you move forward in your week, look for God in everything. See him in your work, in the beautiful creation around you, and in your actions. And let everyone else see Jesus in you.
